"The American political system has become the laughingstock of the world. In a time where it is vital to be advancing in the world, we are falling apart and moving backward. As a young adult, I find my future terrifying. I have no clue what the next ten to twenty years will hold, but at this current moment, the future is looking bleak.
This current election is so polarizing that it is splitting the nation in two. The main candidates seem to have more people that hate them than that actually support them. Very few people are willing to admit who they are actually planning on voting for out of fear of being ridiculed. The candidates fail to discuss actual issues and instead engage in petty arguments over social media. They are more intent on attacking one another than trying to remedy the problems that are facing the country.
We live in such a polarizing climate that no party can come to a compromise. We sit at a standstill where neither party will back down. Each time we face a crisis, promises are made and broken. We make no progress in any direction. Politicians' inability to compromise is running this nation into the ground.
People question how a man like Donald Trump could rise to power, but he is merely a symptom of a greater problem. We have allowed the American public to let racism take over, deny basic human rights to others and ignore cold hard facts about the future of our planet.
Younger generations are criticized for our ideals being too progressive but at least we are willing to examine the current system and push for changes. The world is changing and we are failing to change with it. Other political systems in other nations are constantly adapting while we adamantly try to remain the same. We cannot rely on what was written hundreds of years ago to dictate the entire future of a nation.
In a time where foreign policy is one of the most important issues politicians are facing, we are allowing a man who has no concept of respecting other cultures to have a legitimate chance at leading the nation. Foreign policy is a delicate issue and Donald Trump is severely lacking in that area.
Though previous elections have had polarizing candidates, this is one of the most polarizing elections we have had yet. I fear for the future of this country. I fear living in a country where I will be viewed as less of a person and have my rights be taken away.
What I do not fear is adapting to the new times which is exactly what this nation is failing at doing right now. I don't know how our nation has allowed for a candidate who has a history of massive financial failures and who focuses more on attacking others than actual issues has become a front runner, but this is the current reality."
